Collisional De-Excitation Cross-Section Measurement of Electronic States of Atomic and Molecular Hydrogen by Collision with Molecular Hydrogen

Abstract

The H(alpha), H(beta), and H(gamma) lines of the Balmer series of atomic hydrogen and the G singlet Sigma (g)(+) to B singlet Sigma (u)(+) molecular hydrogen system were produced by 40-kev electron beam excitation of molecular hydrogen at room temperature. The collisional de-excitation cross section of the above-mentioned excited electronic states in collision with H2 X singlet Sigma (g)(+) was measured.
