Dependence of Friction Properties on the Technology of Thiocyaniding Steel Friction Disks,

Abstract

Steels 5 and 65 G were researched. The tests were conducted under conditions of dry friction. Both models of each pair of friction disks were sulfocyanided simultaneously in a single bath, after which they were cooled in air, washed in water, and their working surface cleaned with a metal brush. Before the testing the models were scoured clean of grease with acetone. It was established that sulfocyaniding reduces the coefficient of friction of the steel and, at the same time, that the coefficient of friction depends on the depth of the hard zone of the layer, on the initial composition of the sulfocyaniding bath, and on the temperatures used.
