Two-Dimensional Elastic Stresses Around a Crack Normal to an Interface.
Abstract
Mode II or shearing mode stress intensity factors are determined for a finite length crack in a bimaterial composite. The crack is in one of the elastic materials and is perpendicular to an interface between the two bonded dissimilar materials of the composite. The mode II factors, together with previously obtained mode I factors, furnish the complete two-dimensional description of the stresses around the crack tips for inplane loads on the composite. Numerical results for the stress intensity factors are presented for a stress-free crack which occurs in a region of uniform stress. (Author-PL)
