A Theoretical Model of the Utricular Otolith and Its Response to Angular Motion with Respect to an Acceleration in Shear,

Abstract

A theoretical model is developed for the utricular otolith and its associated neural connections to the oculomotor system, based upon established anatomical and electrophysiological features. The dynamic behaviour of the model is analysed, particularly in its response to angular motion with respect to an acceleration in shear. The predictions of the model with appropriate restraints are compared with data from experiments carried out in man. (Author)
