A Long-Term Gyrocompass Test.

Abstract

The work was undertaken as a joint effort between Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories and Northrop to investigate certain gyrocompass performance characteristics. It has been realized that a rate sensing gyrocompass is sensitive to environmental influences and that these influences can affect the accuracy of the measurement in very subtle ways. Specifically the paper addresses gyrocompass resolution; long-term accuracy, statistical attributes of the gyro, and the gyro as a geophysical tool. (Author)
