Study of the Stability of Thin-Walled Cylindrical Shells with a Filler under Axial Compression,

Abstract

The stability of cylindrical shells with a filler under axial compression is examined, and for the filler three-dimensional linearized equations at small subcritical deformations are used. With the aid of a computer the influence of the geometric parameters and rigidity of the shell and filler on the magnitude of critical stress is investigated. a comparison with results obtained on the basis of simplified calculations is given. in the study of stability it is considered that the filler absorbs part of the compressive load and is rigidly fastened to the envelope. Used for the shell are equations of the stability of thin-walled cylindrical shells, and for the filler three-dimensional linearized equations of stability are used. (Author)
