The Problem of Tool Diffusion Wear,
Abstract
The results of experiments on machining of the 45, 35 KhGSa and EI654 steels by VK8 hard alloy tool showed that on the tool front surface, there are qualitatively different sections of friction surface interactions. On the first section, adjacent to the cutting edge, there is no transfer of chip material along the front tool surface while a plastic run of near contact chip layers is observed. On the second section, the wear is related to the presence of external metal mass transfers over the tool surface and cannot be explained only by diffusion alone. A diffusion wear occurs in the absence of external metal mass transfers in the zone of attachment. (Author)
