Systems Analysis of Vidicon Optics for the Electronic Periscope View Simulator.

Abstract

New, high resolution vidicon tubes are being developed for T. V. applications. The resolution requirements of one such tube are reviewed and the specialized optical probe required for an electronic periscope view simulator is analyzed. Conventional optical analysis, with the exception of pupil magnification, is used to show that desired system resolution can be attained if model scale is flexible. The graphical results indicate that an 800:1 scale aircraft carrier is usable if 25% resolution degradation over 40% of the length of the model is acceptable for the closest simulated range. If stricter resolution and depth of field requirements are desired than larger models must be used. (Author)
