Laser Safety in Pulsed Holography.

Abstract

The report is a comprehensive review of the basic laser safety procedures to be employed when using a pulsed laser. The laser presently being used at this laboratory is discussed as one particular example. The safe exposure levels for pulsed lasers are discussed in radiometric terms. The radiometry of sources and surfaces is discussed. Practical calculations are given. A safety analysis is given of the direct beam, diffuse sources, and viewing with magnifying optics. The safety procedures to be employed when making pulsed holograms of people are outlined. The conservation of radiance theorem is derived and discussed. (Author)
