Effect of Shell Extensional Vibration on Hull Shock Response.
Abstract
The report is an extension of the analysis presented in Report No. 1, AD-751 040. Previously transient hull motions caused by underwater shock were based on the rigid body and flexural modal response of a long elastic ring. Internal equipment structures were modeled as an N-mass system fixed to the inside of the hull at a specified position. The present analysis extends this work by including the response of the first extensional vibration mode. Numerical results are compared with data taken from underwater models. Excellent agreement between calculated and peak hull velocities is obtained. (Author)
