The Use of Antitoxidant FCh-16,

Abstract

FCh-16 antioxidant which consists of phenol fractions (extracted from tar waters of semi-coking of cherry-size coal using butyl acetate), distilled in a vacuum, was proposed for the stabilization of automobile gasolines in 1957. The antioxidant contains at least 85% monatomic and diatomic phenols; the pyrocatechol and its homology predominate in the latter. The distillation of the antioxidant in a vacuum for the purpose of removing the heavy coal residue not dissolved in the gasolines is a necessary condition for its use. Prolonged storage in steel tanks decreased the antioxidant quality; but, after 13 years storage in glass bottles, the antioxidant had unchanged quality.
