Association, Switching, and Rearrangement for Positively Charged Cluster Ions in the Upper Atmosphere. II. Application at 80 km,

Abstract

A path between NO(+) and H(+)(H2O)2 is proposed that may be fast enough to satisfy ionospheric requirements at 80 km. The path consists of six steps. The cluster ion NO(+)(N2) is formed. N2 is replaced by CO2, CO2 is replaced by H2O; NO(+)(H2O) is presumed to undergo an ion-atom Interchange reaction with either OH or HO2 or both to form H(+)(H2O); The cluster ion H(+)(H2O)(N2) is formed; and N2 is replaced by H2O to form H(+)(H2O)2.
