Feasibility of Applying Fringe Multiplication Techniques to Stress Analysis in Three Dimensions.

Abstract

The report presents an evaluation of the fringe multiplication technique as an adjunct to the frozen stress approach of three dimensional experimental stress analysis. A model of the intersection of two horseshoe shaped tunnels was constructed and loaded at an elevated temperature. Slices were cut from the model for study. Isochromatic fringe multiplication up to and including 7X was obtained on selected slices. The fringe sharpening technique was demonstrated. (Author)
