Routine Economic Airlift.
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to assist the Army in developing a fully operational in-house capability to operate and manage the Army Routine Economic Airlift (REAL) program. This study program implements the results of a previous RAC study, 'Selection of Items for Air Shipment on an Economic Basis,' RAC-R-116, January 1971. In order to assure early implementation, RAC performed the initial computation of SIMS items using the formula and methodology developed in RAC-R-116. The results of this initial computation are shown in this report and the initial shipments based upon these results commenced on 15 September 1971. In addition to the original selection techniques for air eligible cargo, this study also develops supplementary selection methods used to identify items that are the most promising candidates for air shipment as well as insuring that marginal items are not included in the REAL program. The results using these supplementary techniques are also shown in this document. (Author)
