Testing and Operation of Aerosol Counter on Tethered Balloon Flights.

Abstract

The report describes continued work performed on the GCA balloon-borne aerosol counter. The unit was successfully operated in a series of tethered balloon flights which were conducted to obtain diagnostic data for overall system development purposes. Preliminary data reductions indicate reasonably good correlation with an airborne Royco counter operated as close to the balloon as possible. However, the size distribution exhibits a somewhat unusual peak at about 0.3-0.4 micron which is as yet unexplained. (Author)
