Polar Cap Bibliography with Abstracts. 3. Energy Inputs and Outputs for the Polar Cap Upper Atmosphere,

Abstract

The report contains abstracts on selected topies in the literature on upper atmospheric phenomena in the inner regions of the polar caps. Although a few references on cosmic rays, auroras, airglow, and noctilucent clouds go back to the 1930's or 1950's, the references are mostly from the last decade of 1961 through 1971. They are divided into 13 groups that cover the flux and energy spectrum of precipitated particles, cosmic rays, the optical emissions of aurora, airglow, and noctilucent clouds, atmospheric heating, photoionization, ionization by particle bombardment, and the instrumentation and measurement systems used to study the inputs and outputs of energy in the polar cap upper atmosphere.
