Investigation of the Dynamics of a Strong-Current Discharge in Air,

Abstract

The work presents the results of gas-dynamic, optical and energy measurement of a strong-current (a current of about 400 kA) discharge in air at atmospheric pressure. During such discharges plasma with a density of 10 to the 18th power to 10 to the 19th power particles/cc and a temperature of 2-5 eV is formed. If the energy supply in the capacitors is great, then the volume of plasma proves to be so great that the dominant role in the transfer of energy is played by radiant thermal conductivity. This is the basic distinction of such discharges from a spark discharge.
