Forecast of the Geopotential for a Large Territory by a Barotropic Divergent,

Abstract

A scheme for short range forecasting of the geopotential and wind for a large territory is considered, based on the solution of a barrotropic variation of a full system of equations of hydrodynamics. The forecasts according to this numerical scheme were calculated for a period of up to 3 days. Evaluations of the AT(500) forecasting maps are given, as are also examples of forecasts for 24, 48, and 72 hours. (Author)
