A Contribution to the Research of Low-Temperature Properties of Multipurpose Greases,

Abstract

The properties of various greases at low temperatures were tested on a special apparatus according to ASTM D 1478-63, with torsion resistance in ball bearings under predetermined conditions taken as the basic criterion. Considerable differences were established between lithium greases of similar composition but different origin. The low-temperature properties are greatly influenced by the type of thickener, the brand and viscosity of the oil, and especially the method used in dispersing and heat treatment in the manufacture.
