Large-Screen Tactical Display Systems for Training Devices.
Abstract
To provide a solution to the problem of tactical displays in training devices, a study was made of several large-screen display systems not known to be used in training devices, and a state-of-the-art review performed for possible short-and long-term solutions. From the present projection system, an objective performance specifiction for a large-screen display was developed and the data compared to determine replacement system or systems. Of the seven major systems reviewed and compared to the specification, only three met the requirements: PC/CRT/film, PC/CRT/glass and PC/laser/film; with a fourth (PC/laser/glass) that could be added although not in development. Both CRT and laser systems could serve as short-term solutions; however, since the laser systems are not fully proven and were rejected in a previous study, it was concluded that the CRT should be the medium used.
