Development of an Advanced Pulsed Electron Beam Accelerator.

Abstract

The report covers the development of a 50-kJ generator capable of producing currents in excess of one megampere at voltages approaching one megavolt with a pulse width about 55 nsec. The concept is to feed an electron accelerating tube from two modules, each containing multiple Mylar striplines arranged in a series-parallel configuration. Each module contains 8 Blumleins with a total output of 0.5 MA to 1 MV. The modular concept permits the individual Mylar lines to be assembled in air and vacuum-impregnated with copper sulphate solution. The module and its striplines are easily attached to the accelerating tube. Additional modules can be added to the present design to increase the machine power output. (Author)
