Estimation of Acceleration and Ageing Functions.

Abstract

Problems in the areas of accelerated life testing and the prediction of future reliability of ageing components are ones in which the authors wish to relate behavior under one set of conditions to behavior under another set of conditions. Often the interest in relating these behaviors is to predict behavior under one set of conditions using data obtained under the other set. In order to make these predictions various assumptions on the function relating the behaviors (call it the acceleration function or ageing function where appropriate) and the distributions involved have been made. In the paper the authors emphasize the study of the acceleration function itself, provide estimates and confidence intervals assuming only continuity and monotonicity and present a solution to a prediction problem using out estimate of the acceleration function.
