Research Program on Three Axis Matrix Addressing Techniques.

Abstract

A research program is described in which the feasibility of achieving significant reductions in the number of leads and electronics required for addressing and driving matrix display panels is investigated. The technique under investigation is that in which additional addressing axes are obtained by means of a multipanel assembly. The ultimate capability of the technique is shown to be the reduction of the requirements to 40 leads for a 1024 by 1024 panel. A three layer El/Pc unit and a two layer Liquid Crystal unit are described which demonstrate the feasibility of the technique. Logical analysis and minimization formulas for cost and leads are also included. (Author)
