Liquid Crystal Display Panel.

Abstract

NUFACTURING, FEASIBILITY STUDIES*LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY SYSTEMS, LIQUID CRYSTALS, METAL OXIDE SEMICONDUCTORS, FLAT PANEL DISPLAYSAn objective of this program is to demonstrate the feasibility of developing an effective x-y addressed liquid crystal display by fabricating a three-inch square, flat, liquid crystal display panel incorporating all addressing and drive circuitry for the display of alphanumeric and vector-graphical information at a resolution of 30 lines per inch. An experimental determination of yield statistics for double-level metallization was performed. Circuitry design is complete, and detailed MOS layout is well under way for the entire integrated circuit. A technique has been developed for joining the four slices into a mosaic. Initial experiments gave acceptable results concerning flatness and freedom from surface damage.
