Secondary Zinc-Oxygen Batteries.

Abstract

The purpose of this contract was to conduct research and development leading to the construction of a long life high energy density sealed zinc-oxygen secondary battery which is capable of operating over the range of temperatures and rates compatible with Army communications and surveillance equipment. Discussed are the following: Investigations and screening of inorganic separator materials, Optimization of the rechargeable zinc electrodes; Investigation of various rechargeable oxygen electrode schemes; and Design, fabrication and testing of lightweight sealed 25 ampere-hour zinc-oxygen cells.
