Tests of Concrete Mixer Performance, Carlyle Reservoir Project, Carlyle, Illinois,

Abstract

The effectiveness of a 6.2-cu-yd capacity Koehring-Johnson mixer in mixing 6-cu-yd batches of exterior concrete at three mixing times was evaluated. The following tests were made on samples from the front, middle, and back portions of the continuous mixer discharge: coarse aggregate content, unit weight of air-free mortar, and moisture and cement content of the mortar fraction. Three batches were tested after 4-min mixing time, three after 3 min, and one after 2-1/2 min. The mixer was found to perform satisfactorily at a minimum mixing time of 3 min when mixing 6 cu yd of exterior concrete. (Author)
