Potential Methods for Reduction of Product Loss in Military Pipelines.

Abstract

The purpose of the work described by the report is to present evaluations of various methods, concepts, and configurations of practicable designs to be used for reduction of product loss in military pipelines due to failure or deliberate destruction. The report presents, in varied detail, discussions of operating procedures, equipment, estimated costs, approximate weights, advantages, and disadvantages for practicable methods and designs. The work was performed by investigating five methods of diminishing product loss from ruptured pipelines. Using control equipment to shut the line down and divide it into short sections was determined to be the most satisfactory approach to reducing product loss due to line failure. (Author)
