Evaluation of High-Activity Level Tower Cab.

Abstract

The project was conducted to develop operator's consoles, lighting systems, and other features that would provide a modern, efficient, and pleasant operating environment for the octagonal tower cab, which is proposed for use at high-activity level airports. A full-scale mockup of the tower cab was constructed at the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center (NAFEC), Atlantic City, New Jersey. The mockup was equipped with experimental consoles, lighting systems, and appropriate environmental innovations. A 3-week evaluation was conducted with participation by air traffic control specialists from nine of the 11 Federal Aviation Administration's Regions. (Author)
