Non-Contacting Capacitive Wave Transducers. Part 1. The Solution of the Laplace Equation in a Space Bounded by a Flat and a Sinusoidal Surface and Its Application to the Evaluation of Noncontacting Capacitive Wave Measurement,

Abstract

The Laplace equation has been solved to give the potential and electric field distribution between a flat conducting surface at potential V1 and a sinusoidal conducting surface at potential V2. The solution has been used to evaluate the precision with which sinusoidal waves can be measured in flumes and models with transducers using non-contacting capacitive sensing. Dimensionless factors are used throughout the analysis to enhance the usefulness of graphs and formulas.
