Transmitter Tube for Troposcatter Application.

Abstract

CIENCY OF 50%; the transmitter in this case is defined as the rf power output divided by the sum of the power inputs to the klystron amplifier, the focusing mechanism and the cooling system. During the report period agreement was reached between ECOM project engineers and Varian technical personnel concerning the form of the cooling system to be used for demonstration of the transmitter. The hybrid system which combines liquid cooling the klystron body and magnet with vapor phase cooling of the klystron collector was chosen as the most practical approach. Based on this decision tube design work was completed and tube fabrication begun. One additional liquid-cooled magnetic circuit was ordered. Preliminary plans were drawn for the complete hybrid heater changer system and parts will be ordered when final details are complete. The first model of a simplified tuning mechanism was completed and preliminary tests are reported. (Author)
