Temperature Rise Tests of Mass Concrete for Locks and Dams 1 and 2, Arkansas Post Canal Route, Arkansas River, Arkansas,

Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to proportion a mass concrete mixture from materials designated for this project, using mixture proportions the same as or similar to those which are to be used in the field, and to determine the 28-day adiabatic temperature rise and other thermal properties of the mixture. The report lists the materials and describes the mixtures used in preparing two 15-cu-ft batches of concrete from which test specimens were made for adiabatic temperature-rise, thermal diffusivity, and compressive strength tests. It presents the test procedures used and results obtained in tests on the two batches of freshly mixed concrete and on the hardened test specimens.
