Dust Particle Velocity Measurements Using a Laser Velocimeter

Abstract

The report describes the use of a one-component dual-scatter laser velocimeter (LV), in the forward-scatter mode, to measure the particle velocity distribution in a hypersonic dust erosion facility. The data acquired from a number of experiments are briefly summarized. Additional data acquired from holographic and fiber-optics measurements are also compared with the LV data. A discussion of the effects of both periodic and nomperiodic electrical noise upon the data is presented.
