Abstract

)), BROADBAND, VERY HIGH FREQUENCY, POWER AMPLIFIERS, PUSH PULL AMPLIFIERS, IMPEDANCE MATCHING, INFRARED SCANNING, THERMAL PROPERTIESA broadband, 30- to 80-megahertz, common-base transistor amplifier chain, capable of supplying 40 watts of output power with 16-dB gain was developed. For a fixed input power of 1 watt, the output power remains within 0.6 dB of the 40-watt limit across the entire frequency range. The chain consists of two stages: the first stage uses a 2N5071 to supply 10dB gain, and the output stage uses two 2N5071's in push-pull configuration to supply 6-dB gain and 40 watts. The transistors were specifically fabricated with the base connected to the package to minimize baselead inductance. The amplifiers were tested both individually and as a chain for operation under load-mismatch and collector-overvoltage stress conditions. (Author)
