Intermetallic Compounds of Extreme Stability.

Abstract

The ideas of the Engel-Brewer Correlation have been used to choose a class of intermetallic compounds as possible refractory materials. Calorimetric experiments clearly show that ZrPt3 and HfPt3 are the most thermodynamically stable intermetallics known. In addition it was shown that these materials are more stable than their respective carbides. Evaluation of some of their materials properties have been made with the purpose of showing their possible uses. (Author)
