Survey for Mosquito Control, Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota.

Abstract

Mosquito populations at Grand Forks AFB present an acute problem both from the standpoint of personal comfort and possible disease transmission. Aerial application of pesticides is not economically feasible due to required frequency of application. Ground dispersal of adulticide treatments using conventional equipment is so time consuming that effective control is precluded. The Micro-Gen Low Volume Insecticide Generator has been shown to produce effective mosquito kill over large areas. Compared to conventional equipment, it provides savings in manpower and quantity of pesticide required when control is required over large areas. There is also a significant decrease in the environmental impact in controlling this type of mosquito problem with low volume insecticide dispersal. Limited applicability tests of the Micro-Gen at Grand Forks, while not conclusive, suggest favorable results. (Author)
