E-Beam HCl Laser.

Abstract

The feasibility of producing stimulated emission in the 3-5 micrometer wavelength band by exciting hydrogen chloride vibrational levels by electron impact is being investigated theoretically and experimentally. A self-consistent set of electron-HCl cross sections for elastic, rotational, vibrational, and electronic processes were determined. Cross sections for vibrational excitation are found to be particularly large, over a relatively broad range of discharge conditions. No data has been obtained from the fully integrated HCl discharge experiments, as yet. (Author)
