Concerning the Effect of the Eccentricity of Reinforcement upon the Stability of Cylindrical Shells,

Abstract

The article deals with circular cylindrical shells of arbitrary length, which are regarded as structurally anisotropic. The problem of stability is solved by the energy method. Hypotheses of the absence of shears in the middle surface and other inextensibility of the contour of the cross section were adopted. The expressions for the critical loads as functions of the parameters of wave formation with an axially symmetric initial state of the shell were obtained from a solution of the equation of Euler's variational problem. Note is taken of weakening of the effect of the influence of eccentricity with an increase in the length of the shell. (Author)
