MARQ4: A Computer Program for Nonlinear Functional Maximization.

Abstract

The FORTRAN 5 computer program described in the report was prepared to provide the scientific community at Edgewood Arsenal the capability of solving nonlinear functional maximization problems with a minimum of computer programming effort. The class of problems which can be solved by MARQ4 includes least-squares estimation of nonlinear parameters, solution of systems of nonlinear algebraic equations, and nonlinear functional maximization with constraints. The Marquardt algorithm was selected as the basic element of the program because of its flexibility and efficiency. The method has been compared with other techniques in numerical experiments and found to be consistently efficient over a broad range of problem types. (Author)
