Two-Dimensional Programming Systems.
Abstract
Progress in a general research program of two-dimensional programming systems is summarized: Studies in the design of two-dimensional programming systems for timesharing environments; Research into the automation of numerical analysis; Theoretical generalization of the factors involved in the automatic composition and transformation of two-dimensional mathematical text; Extension of two-dimensional editing techniques for CRT usage; Studies in recognition of hand-printed mathematical input; Theoretical investigations into programming languages which are context dependent, subject to ambiguity, and use extensible alphabets. These studies are highly relevant to the objectives of automating programming efforts, therefore, decreasing programming manpower costs and increasing the power, efficiency, and applicability of modern computer systems.
