One way of circumventing the high hardware cost is to use an associative memory which is smaller than the data base, and process the data by pages. By using a smaller memory the hardware costs are thus reduced. Some operations can be performed quite efficiently on an associative memory smaller than the data base, (Fractional-Size Associative Memory) while others cannot. In this report a class of operations which are performed efficiently on a Fractional-Size Associative Memory is defined.
