Optimization of the Working Characteristics of Hydrostatic Sliding Bearings,

Abstract

The various aspects of optimum bearing design are discussed with references to other published works on the subject. An optimality criterion is derived and a permissible shift of 9% is introduced in the stiffness value. The significance of resilience and damping properties of the lubricating films in sliding bearings are indicated. From theoretical bases a nomograph is developed portraying the relationship between working characteristics, actual dimensions of bearing and properties of lubricant. An example is given to show how critical parameters can be calculated with the aid of the nomograph. (Author)
