Factors of Stress Concentration at a Hole in Finite Strips under Bending.

Abstract

Factors of stress concentration were determined, experimentally and analytically, for isotropic finite strips containing a hole under in plane bending. The hole-diameter to strip-width ratio (D/W) is between 1/16 and 7/8. Photoelasticity was used as the experimental method and the NASTRAN finite element as the analytical approach. The results extend Frocht and Leven's information, which was limited to D/W=or</3. (Author)
