Chemical Protection in Mixed Gamma-Neutron Irradiation with Different Neutron Contributions in the Absorbed Dose,

Abstract

When the neutron component in mixed gamma-neutron irradiation drops to 25-30% the protective effect of AET (S, beta-aminoethyl isothioronium bromide/hydrobromide) and cystamine is manifest to the same degree as in conditions of gamma- and X-ray radiation. The subject of the present investigation was the effectiveness of pharmacochemical protective substances as the neutron component increases. Experiments were carried out on non-pedigree white female mice weighing 19-22 g kept under normal animal-house conditions and fed on a standard diet. The compounds were AET, Cystafos (monosodium beta-aminoethylthiophosphate), Cystamine, 5-MOT (5-methoxytryptamine), AET + 5 MOT, and Cystafos + 5-MOT.
