The Application of the Kalman Filter to the Sonobuoy Reference System on the S3A.

Abstract

In 1960 R. E. Kalman introduced a least square concept that gives optimal estimates for the state of some dynamic systems. Included is a brief historical introduction leading to his work, a summary of his work, and the application of the theory to the sonobuoy reference system used on the S3A aircraft. Also, a tutorial development of certain quantities used in the filter is presented. (Author)
