Interaction of Heat, Light and Defects in Solids.

Abstract

The report describes theoretical studies on the stimulated emission of phonons by intense laser light beams in the immediate vicinity of surfaces. Surfaces do not lower the intrinsic damage threshold. Also described are a calculation of the effect of nitrogen platelets on the thermal conductivity of diamond, a study on the thermal conductivity of complex crystals at elevated temperatures, calculations of phonon scattering and lattice thermal conductivity in ordered alloys, and an improved perturbation theory.
