Thermodynamic Properties of Ir2S3 and IrS2.

Abstract

Thermodynamic properties of Ir2S3 have been obtained from the equilibrium pressures of S2(g) measured by the effusion technique in the range of 920 to 1110 K. The standard Gibbs energy change at these temperatures for 2 Ir(s)+1.5 S2(g) = Ir2S3(s) was found. The standard heat of formation of Ir2S3 was extrapolated to 25 C. Similar data have been obtained for Ir2S3 + 0.5 S2(g) = 2 IrS2.
