Frequency Division with Ripple Counters.

Abstract

A method of programming binary ripple counters for adding or subtracting counts to provide any integral division ratio is presented. The technique is particularly useful in extending the range of a given counter chain a few counts beyond the normal binary count. Thus, a 4 bit binary counter normally dividing by 16, can be made to divide by 17, 18, 19,---without introducing pulse width variations due to external RC timing networks. (Author)
