Analysis of Soviet Geodetic Satellite Data
Abstract
An investigation has been made of Soviet camera sites at Riga and Uzhgorod and the site at Helsinki, Finland to determine the geodetic quality of their optical satellite observations with respect to seven other co-observing camera sites in Western Europe. The primary objectives were to improve the geodetic coordinates of the two Soviet sites and the site at Helsinki with respect to the European Datum and to ascertain the quality of the instrumentation used at the Soviet sites. Results of the analysis with respect to the European Datum also revealed a change in geodetic height at Station Malvern, England. Adjustments made on the geocentric SAO Standard Earth II Datum support the findings of other investigators regarding a scale variance between satellite adjustments limited to the European area and those on the global, geocentric SAO Standard Earth II Datum.
