Optical Beam Spread in a Turbulent Medium: The Effect of the Outer Scale of Turbulence.

Abstract

On the basis of the extended Huygens Fresnel principle, a simple derivation of the effects of the outer scale of turbulence on the turbulence-induced beam spread of an optical beam propagating through a random medium is given. The analysis is valid for all propagation distances of interest. Analytic and numerical results are presented such that the limitations on previous results are obtained. (Author)
