The Three-Dimensional Laminar Elliptical Jet in a Coflowing Stream,

Abstract

A laminar jet issuing from a three-dimensional orifice of elliptical shape is analyzed by the use of the boundary layer assumptions in the mixing region of the jet. The full three-dimensional equations are reduced to a set of quasi-two-dimensional boundary layer equations. These equations are solved numerically and predict a decrease in the half width dimension of the major axis of the ellipse. This decrease has been observed in the case of three-dimensional turbulent jets but has not been predicted by any previous analysis. (Author)
